My Little Yusuff

Yusuff insists my wife to make him kueh keria. I know he adores kueh keria very much. Whenever his grandma comes over to our house she would make kueh keria for Yusuff. But he does not call it kueh keria, instead he calls it kueh gelang because it is round like bangle. He is very fond of eating everything seems to be tasty for him.

Today he helped my wife to peel the sweet potatoes. And the skin scattered all over the area. I saw him peeling the sweet potatoes and would like to take his photo. He just turned around prohibited me from taking the photos. He might feel embarrassed for the photo. I was surprised when he managed to complete four sweet potatoes. Wow......that was incredible.

Finally he took the broom and sweep the floor and remove all the dirt. I was astonished with his new developed character. Then he asked my wife to call him when she is ready to prepare the dough. He just 4 uears and eight months old. Probably he is the only one to follow me handy in the kitchen.

Going To Open House

Is Hari Raya is over? No, it is not. You can see people are still celebrating Hari Raya. My children's friends are still coming to our house and still beri duit raya. If you drive in KL during coming week end dont be surprised if you are stuck in the trafic jam especially during afternoon. I also got invited to few houses for Open House. Since I am still on mc, it is better for me to rest at home.

Now is the time for the politicians and ministers, MPs do have an Open House to show to people they are the MPs or politicians with pwople's heart. Hhhmmmm......to invite people to enjoy the free food and getting small duit raya never denied by almost all Malaysians. Malaysians are well known for rushing for anything free. They can forego their principal for anything free even to cheat just to get something free. Wow...my words are becoming politic now...hihihi.

Hari Raya is about eating ketupat isnt it. Yes I missed ketupat very much and this raya, surprisingly I never taste ketupat. Nowadays not many people know how to do ketupat and I should leart to make it from my mother. At least this traditional dish never get extinct very soon. Let me inherit from my mother....yummy...yummy...

A Little Chef

Yesterday I did few biscuits. I was so lucky to have a little chef to assist me in the kitchen. When I complete the measurement he insisted to help me beating the butter and sugar. I told him to beat it until turned fluffy. I never thought that he would be so serious. After a while he said he wanted to stop and decorate the choc chips on the biscuits and it turned out to be so nice. At first I was afraid that he might smear my biscuits. I was lucky to have him around helping me in the kitchen.

Samprit Biscuit

I had an early shower today. After having breakfast with chapati and kima with my chldren, I wondered what should I do to make something meaningful and valuable and not to waste my time without doing nothing. There are many plans that I wish to start but with my condition at this moment, I have to be little bit patience.

Oh yeah......It is better for me to make a quick biscuit i.e. Samprit biscuit. I asked my wife whether all the ingredients are available. She brought everything on the table. I started to measure the butter and sugar and beat them until fluffy. I added one egg yolk and a teaspoon of vanila essence. The I mixed all the flours and ready to pipe in the baking tray.

It took only half an hour to make the biscuits and as easy as ABC. By now the biscuit already cooked and almost finish eaten by my children. That is why I never make any biscuit before raya. Can you imagine how much I need to spend for biscuits if I were to buy for hari raya? Anyway I love to cook for my family......

Decorating My Heliconia

This morning my wife brought few cuttings of heliconia from the garden and decorated them at the corner of my console table in the living area. Wow...it looked great. My heliconia has blooming profusely and more shoots are emerging from the ground. It is so beautiful.

Driving Home

We have arrived to our beloved home after a long holiday balik kampung for Eid Mubarak. Now we will continue our Eid Mubarak by visiting our friends and neighbours. You see....as I mentioned to you earlier, we celebrate for a full month of Syawal. I have to make my list of friends to visit and fix an appointment with them to ensure that they are at home and willing to accept me as their guest. Hehehe.........

Ok lets talk about our journey back to Rawang. As usual we departed from Sg Limau, my inlaw house. To prepare everybody ie my nine children is not that easy. We always planned to move earlier but to manage them to have a shower and pack up their things always make my life miserable. Finally we ended up departing to my mother's house by 9.30 am. After sojourned for a while at my mother's house we moved to the PLUS Highway. I expected the traffic would be cruel since many urbanites started to return to KL.

We stuck with heavy traffic jam from Kuala Kangsar until Ipoh because the lanes converge from three lanes to two lanes. There were also cars broke down and blocked the lanes. Finally we stopped at Tapah R&R for our prayers and meal. As we drove along the cloud starts to send the cat and dog until we reached Slm River. I was almost asleep while driving and it was a very tiring journey. We could have reach home for 4 and a half hours drive instead we reached after 7 hours drive.

Balik Kampung

As fas as I could remember, I have never celebrated Hari Raya in kampung with my grandparents. Balik kampung is not in our dictionary during Hari Raya. Being the children of a policeman, all I could remember we celebrated Hari Raya in the police barrack or in our own home. My grandma used to celebrate together with us. There were so many reasons why we hardly balik kampung. First during our time, the public transport was so poor. Can you imagine how my parents would handle 4 of us to rush for the bus, ferry and another bus? I think we have to change for more than 5 buses to reach Balik Pulau Penang. Those were stories for old days and to have a car was like a dream. The only time when we balik kampung was when there was a wedding feast because my father's brothers or sisters going to get marry.

We went to visit our uncle at Balik Pulau yesterday. Everything looks very different. There are so many new houses around the area including the luxurious housing project. I could remember the area was covered by padi field and and small stream within the area. Now everything is disappeared. The land has been sold out to the developer for a quick profit. And the price for the house is very expensive.

This area was where we use to gather with other family members and I would believe that this is the area where we are to depart. There are still few lots can build nice bungalows but who is so lucky to have the area. As for me my home in Rawang is already nice and spacious to live in with my nine children.

What Is The Food For Hari Raya

When talk about food, there are plenty of food to be served. But ketupat pulut, lemang or ketupat nasi are mandatory menu for every house. These ketupatsare best to be served with rendang, and we have all kind of rendang like rendang tok, rendang minang, rendang janda and also rendang pengantin. There are many more food and menu you can enjoy. The concept of open house is very unique where everybody can come and visit their friends and relatives and enjoying authetic food from morning to night.

Unfortunately, not everybody is cooking and preparing their own food but rather making an order to other people. But for family, we would rather prepare our own food but we did buy few traditional cripes and muruku for our children and visitors. Two days ago we went to bazar Ramadhan to have our last shopping to buy few packets of traditional cripes. There we so many people around wandering what are items they need to buy. Ohhh.....I bought a songkok for me. My children said that I look like yang berhormat though. Never mind!

I was tempted to buy jeruk buah. I think why not we serve it for hari raya? Especially jeruk kedondong. Oh I felt like a pregnant lady now. Yes, it looks like Hari Raya is bringing joy to everybody. After that you might be trifty again after spending lots of money like crazy....hahaha.....

Aid Mubarak

Alhamdulillah, today we are celebrating Aid Mubarak. It means that we have completed of fasting month of Ramadhan for 30 days. The first of Syawal has emerged last night. We pray that Allah has accepted our prayers and amal and has forgiven our sins. May the next Ramadhan will be better than this Ramadhan and hopefully we can sustain our amal in Ramadhan for the next following months. Hopefully we have greater strength enthusiasm to increase our recitation of Quran, improving of solatul wajip and sunat and becoming more charitable person with a noble and decent character. May Allah grants our doa and prayers, amin.

Now we are at the mosque waiting for Aid congregational prayer. People start to influx into the mosque with new and colourful attires and it looks so wonderful and charming. I bring along my three heros with me with our colourful baju melayu as well. As for me, this is the second baju melayu with sampin after so many years wearing sarong. The first time was during my wedding day.

It is nice to listen to zikir and thamid that are being recited by the people. It is such a magnificient recitation that would bring us towards Allah subhanahuwataala. It is the sign of closing our soul towards Allah.

I would like to wish to all my blog fans and friends out there a very happy Aid Mubarak and enjoy yourselves with this blessing and forgiving day. Bye......

Meeting A Dentist

It has been reminded again and again to brush you teeth every day. But it seems that you are taking my order lightly. Hhhhmmm....every time when I look at your teeth, I knew that you didnt brush your teeth. But you always deny that you already brushed your teeth. Dont let me become a monster.

This is about my son. Suddenly his teeth appear like butter coating and rusric. I was very annoyed with him until I have to drag him to see the dentist to check his teeth and polish them. We stopped for a while at the dental clinic on the way home to Tok Ton's house. When the dentist checked everything there was another tooth to be extracted. He was crying when I asked the dentist to proceed. Anyway, finally he has his shiny teeth again......

Balik Kampung....Yeeeeeahhh

Last night we started packing all the belongings to balik kampung. As usual my wife is the one who was so busy packing and arranging for her children. Me??? I only did my own simple packing. Most of my children are grown up and they should know what to do.

We will drive two cars for balik kampung and everything will be convenient for my family to go for hari raya visiting their neighbours and old friends. I have made an arrangement who should accompany me and who should accompany Ubai for balik kampung. But the arrangement always failed due so many reasons and end up Kiss, Ikhlas, Shamim, Adah and Hadi were following me.

After more than 4 hours drive for non stop, finally we reached Tok Pah's house in Gurun. But we will have our iftar at Tok Ton's house.

My sister also ordered a container each for shortbread biscuit and almond chocolate chips biscuit. I dont know what are other biscuit she would like to prepare but I always love a bite of her pistachio biscuit.

Preparation For Hari Raya

Yes, since we are already in the Hari Raya mood let we continue talking about it. For Muslim, especially the Malaysians, Hari Raya is a big day. Thats why if you are celebrating it here, you will be astonished to find that we are celebrating for a month. In Kuala Lumpur and other parts of Malaysia to have an open house inviting friends and relatives to enjoy the food and prayers is normal. If you drive through the housing areas you could see tends were built inside the mansion as part of preparation for the open house. But for children they will enjoy getting some angpow from the host. I have done before but not anymore. It is a tiring event unless you have helpers especially to manage the food and kids.

Hey....there are lot more to tell you. There are also preparation for cakes and cookies. As for my family, we never buy any cookies or cakes. Everything we do it ourselves and the taste is amazing. I should thank to my wife for her time and dedication to prepare everything for Hari Raya. Sometimes we only bake cakes and cookies after Raya for our guest. We also have difficulties to manage the cookies because our children will manage themselves by shifting from room to room. By the time Hari Raya arrive, the cookies is already finished.

Secondly is baju raya. Alhamdulillah I have finished my shopping and all of the received 3 pairs of new clothes. One pair of baju melayu is enough for me. Actually hari raya is for kids. Let they enjoy themselves with their grandparents as well. The beauty of hari raya is where everybody visiting each other and seek forgiveness. That is the time to meet old friend and relatives. Dont you think it is wonderful?

Yesterday I have the opportunity to shop at Jalan Tunku Abd Rahman and there were so many people. They were ubiquously everywhere to have a last minute shopping. Never mind to spend once a year.

Special Bangles

I sent Ubai to the railway station after iftar. He has to go back to Dungun. Next week he will return again for Hari Raya holidays. Yes, I will miss him again. Safwan accompany me as well. I just needed him to be with me while I was driving home. The fever of hari raya is approaching. People are busy for their last preparation and shopping. By friday there will be a huge exodus by the urbanites to their home town to celebrate Hari Raya with their families and loved one.

I visited Kiss this evening and she told me she needed new tudung. She wanted to go to Jalan Tunku Abd Rahman to select and buy the tudung. I told her to plan with Ubai next week because I would need full rest before driving balik kampung.

After we sent Ubai, I asked Safwan to walk straight to the car coz would like to go to a shop nearby which sells indian accessories. Yes....I intend to buy colourful and glittering bangles for my wife and daughters. I think it would suit them very much when dressing with baju kurung. Now it is not a trend yet but one day people would be crazy matching them with baju kurung. I love to see these bangles very mzch especially when Aisywarya Rai performed her oddersey bratayaram dance full to her arms and the sound was mesmerising.

When I returned home and showed to my wife, she smiled at me and said , 'Thank you'.

The Baju Melayu

Today I bought 4 pairs of Baju Melayu. One for Ubai. One for Safwan and one for Hadi. And not to forget one for me. At last I bought my own Baju Melayu after so many years I never bought one for me. It was a bit of surprise for me to have Baju Melayu for Har Raya.

Actually the is a reason why I bought baju Melayu. It was not because of my wife who demanded me to have Baju Melayu, or I just buang tebiat suddenly I am willing to wear baju Melayu during hari raya. The Baju Melayu comes together with a proper sampin because when you buy a Baju Melayu, you will get sampin for free. The colour that I choose was quite striking just to match with my wife Baju Kurung.

Sure we would look like pengantin baru when we sit next to each other and reminisce our wedding day 21 years ago. Oooopppsss....I forgot that we never bersanding during that time. It was a very simple wedding feast. Sorry to be carried away about the past and everlasting memories.

The whole idea we have very colourful and traditional dresses because I would like to have a colourul and wonderful family photography session during Hari Raya. It must be the most memorable Hari Raya.

The Price Is Too Much

The health services is increasing for non stop. If you monitor the prices of the drugs or any medicines in the pharmacy, you could not believe it how the hiking of prices would go up. When you are getting aging and your age starts to enter the 40s envelope, all sort of health problems start to appear. Sometimes you just need few supplements or medication to serve your week body. No doubt it is happening to me now.

My wife told me that, lately, she is having a knee pain. Sometimes she could not bend he knee and prevent or slowung her from any active action. I knew it always happen to woman. Then she went to see a doctor and pharmacy to buy drugs. When I saw the price, masyaallah it is so expensive which can last for a month. It is a bit scary when to think about health that you have to spend. Infact the insurance company only willing to cover or insure for healthy person. Where are we going now if we could not afford to pay for the health services? It is best to say that we are actually dying.....

Iftar; Breaking Fast

We just breaking our fast. It was nice to see everybody around the table. As usual Yusuff dominated everything. What ever Ikhlas preferred to eat, he will follow the same. In fact he would demand more into his plate. Small boy, always wish to have greater attention. Sarah was ok playing with her smart phone and enjoying her movie, Upin and Ipin. Alhamdulillah she managed to take care of her self unless Yusuff comes and confiscate her smart phone.

As usual, my wife always busy in the kitchen preparing food for iftar. Since everybody is at home except Kiss, I asked her to prepare chicken rice. It is a very simple recipe and yet delicious. She did caramel pudding as well and my children adore it very much. Breaking fast is much exited event during the month of Ramadhan and later prepare for the prayers and asking for forgiveness from Allah. Today is the 21st day of Ramadhan and another nine days to complete. The month of Ramadhan will leave us shortly and will never be the same.

He Is Improving

I have seen Ikhlas is improving his maths ever since I tuition him consistantly. I was a very happy father now. It means that I have to spend more times with him to do his revision. It is not that easy to make them focus on their education because sometimes they are carried away with the call of their friends ourside.

Every weekend I have to make a point they have a very early bath and try to create their mood become fresh and pleasant to get ready for their study. Then I will give them the exercises and explain which part or subject that they could not understand. Teaching kids is very psychological. You need to understand them rather they must understand you. Praise them for every efford they made so that they feel appreciated. I still need to work hard on him to bring him on the right track. I hope my efford will be fruitful!!

I had my left eye operation to remove the cataract last Monday. It was a very succesful operation and thank god make everything easy for me. Now my left eye is very sharp and bright and I am no more dependant on glasses. I never thought that the operation would be a very simple operation. It just a small incision to my eye to replace the lense.

The appoitment was decided at 11.30 am. Ubai and Safwan have to accompany me to the hospital and to drive me home after the operation. Umi should stay at home to take care of Yusoff, Sarah and others for their schooling. Along the way I was relaxed and calmed since the doctor informed me about this simple operation.

When I arrived I went to the counter to check the guarrantee letter from the insurance company. It took sometimes to settle with the procedures before admitted into the day care centre. The nurse instructed me to change my clothes and get ready for the operation. My left eye was checked and they put few drops of medicine to dilate my pupil. I was remained positive about the operation.

I could not remember how long I was in the ward and I felt so boring lying down on the bed and almost falling asleep for quite sometimes. Finally a doctor came to explain how I was going to be anesthetic.

After a while I was brought to the operation theatre to undergo the anesthetic procedure. I was dripped with they gassed and finally I was blackout. All I could remember the nurse woke me up and every was ready for me to go home. I was surprised indeed!!!!

This friday I am going to undergo another operation to my right eye. May Allah make it easy for me.....aminnn.

Tepung Pelita

My wife just finished preparing our dessert, tepung pelita for our iftar today. It looks so simple but yet people are so lazy to make their own. If I were to buy, it might cost me for rm15 at least. So far we never go to bazar Ramadhan to buy food for our iftar. My wife will prepare everything for everybody. Sometimes I asked her how she managed to prepare so many menu?

Having 9 kids with all sorts of apertite is not easy to deal. How about the apertite of the hubby. Heehehe.....I am ok. I am not too fascy about food and anything will be ok for me. But I like dates very much for my iftar and sahur, and it is sunnah to consume dates.

The Prognosis

In life you can never perfectly know what is going on. Sometimes, it comes to your surprise and you have to deal with it wisely. Yes, life is full of surprises. The only thing is how are you managing them as a kind of prediction. In Islam we called them Qada and Qadar i.e faith and destiny and deal them with taqwa and patience.

After finished doing all kinds of tests to my eyes, finally the time to meet the doctor (the eye specialist). My heart was drumming and curious to know what would be the result and advice. The doctor is so famous. She is not only an eye specialist but also a good muslim and a motivational orator. She has written many books about motivation, life and infact appear in Radio IKIM giving talks about religous topics on weekly basis. Looking at the number of patients in the clinic and other charitable activities, she must be a busy lady. I just wonder how she is managing her time.

I always feel nervous when meeting the doctor after the medical check up. Who know what are surprises going to come. My time had come. Slowly I walked to the room and the doctor greet me with her sweet smile and offer me a seat. I sat down quietly and ready to listen to the prognosis. I started to feel my adrenaline keep on pumping faster.

The doctor mentioned that I have cataract to my both eyes and reccommended for a surgery. Oh my god.... I accept the news with calm. What should I say? But I was still in the state of disbelief. No wonder my vision was not comfortable, blurry and foggy lately and I know that something was wrong. After few moment of consultation I have decided to undergo the operation next week. The lasik can only be done after the months. However, my retina and other parts of my eyes are healthy.....

I am at the Prince Court Hospital for my eyes test. I really pray that everthing would be ok and perfect in order for me to undergo Lasic Surgery. It has been for 33 years I have been depending on my glasses.

I arrived here about 9.00am for an appointment at 9.30am. I have made the appointment about 10 days ago. I have gone through the first test to check my cornea and the power. Now I am waiting for the subsequent tests which would last for 4 to 5 hours. Never mind, I have brougt a book and just purchased a photography magazine.

To go through all the tests make me feel nervous of getting the results considering my present condition. I really pray so that everything is to be fine. The condition of my eyes is never improving but is getting worst. I really looking forward to say good bye to my spectacles.

Wish me all the best will you?
